Josh on Down 2-0 Kevin on Kids These Days Mandi on Shearing is done! Josh on Shearing is done! Josh on Softball
Man, what a hectic summer so far….and it’s already almost half over. Softball is almost to an end. Three more regular scheduled games. They played in a round-robin tournament Saturday and won two out of three! I was so proud of them. They are really doing good. Still not enough hustle though….
I learned yesterday that my mom, step-dad and sis aren’t moving to Kansas. I’m glad. I want them to do what is best for them, but that was a long ways away.
Developed a sore throat Friday and I think it’s getting worse instead of better. I really don’t want to go to the doctor. My uncle who is a nurse was down at the family reunion this weekend looked at my shin and said he thinks I cracked my shin bone, but says they wouldn’t be able to do anything if I went to the doctor. He said it will take four to eight weeks to heal….so I’m half way there. HA!
We sold three more sheep. They went to my cousins in Arkansas. I’m hoping they do good because it could turn into a profit if we get more people wanting to come look at our stuff. Hopefully we’ll sell two more this week and then we’ll be down to what I’m going to show or that we’re going to keep to put back into the herd. I’m still really impressed with the way they are looking. Maybe this will be my year to kick butt.
What is it with kids these days? They don’t have any hustle. Society has made it okay to be mediocre, to not try to be better than the next person, to be better than they were yesterday. The attention span of a kid nowadays is about one second. They can’t take it if it’s hot. They can’t take it if they don’t eat or drink when they are hungry or thirsty. They can’t take it if they didn’t get their eight hours of sleep or more the night before. They cry if you get on them the slightest bit; they say you are being mean to them.
What happened to adults being in charge? We were raised that we asked before we got something out of the fridge, especially at someone else’s house. We didn’t ask to stay at somebody’s house, we waited for them to ask us over. Sure we didn’t always appreciate what we got, but we didn’t expect to get everything we asked for either.
Why does society think they are "owed" something? What happened to working for and earning what you "deserve"? Maybe I’m old school, but I know I respect those kinds of traits in people, and I expect that most other people do too.
But then, what happened to "do unto others"? And I don’t think that should be taken purely as religion. It’s just common sense. What happened to common sense? Everything comes too easy. We help people out too much and don’t make them think for themselves. I am guilty of this. Why do I do it? Because it’s easier and faster than having the person fumbling around and making things worse. And I think on the other hand, I would rather someone show me how they came to the conclusion so I don’t have to ask them again, so I guess I’m guilty of not following "do unto others".
And maybe it has always been like this and I was always too young and naive to notice. If that’s the case, let me go back to being young and naive forever.
Man, this is nice sleeping weather. I am so tired. Seems like a lot going on right now. We got nine of the lambs taken to market yesterday. They should bring around $1 a pound. Still have 21 at the house, but we’ll probably decrease that some more after the people come to look at them to buy to show. One of the ones we took off butted me in the jaw. That was fun. It’s kinda sore today, but miraculously, at least as of late, it hasn’t bruised.
Jerry and I saw Star Wars III last night. It was pretty good. It kinda went fast there at the end. Would liked to have seen that fleshed out a little more, but I guess it would have been a four hour movie if they had.
Big weekend coming up. The campers have been streaming in so far. I hope this weather blows out or Jerry’s going to be grumpy.
Yep, that’s right. Got them babies sheared. All 21 of them. Impressed with most, disappointed by a few. We’re going to take 9 to market tomorrow. Hopefully that will help with the feed bill. Those guys are eating like crazy.
Today is my sis’s and nieces’ first softball game. I hope they do good, but it’s definitely going to be a learning experience.
Found the next toy I want. A Delphi MyFi with car and home kit. Why do I always pick the expensive toys?
In case ya’ll wanted to know….softball one day and shearing the next is not a good idea. I am now walking like an old grandma.
Second again…..One of these days I’ll play softball and be first. Played first base and the guys must have thought I was taller. Flattering, but painful. I didn’t even know I had that many muscles over my ribs. Got nailed in the shin/calf area. I was on first with a walk and the batter behind me was left-handed. I told myself I was going to take off as soon as he hit it and I would be out of the way when it came down the line. Well, I did take off, but I’m not the fastest I suppose. And not the highest jumper either. Needless to say, it was the second out. Sunburned my neck, ears, face, arms and legs. Guess I didn’t put on enough sunscreen.
I thought Sunday was supposed to be a carbon copy of Saturday. What do the weather men know anyway? Sheared on again, off again through the sprinkles. Between Dad and I, we got nine done. Only about eleven left to go. We started out doing the ones we thought we might sell or might take to market. Got depressed and started shearing the ones we thought were good. Felt much better after that. They are looking pretty good. I sure screwed up on rams this year though. Oh well, I guess. Too late to go back now, unless they’ve come up with a miracle new procedure I don’t know about…
Well, softball is a go tomorrow. WhooHooo!!! First game is at 9 am. I think Dad is even going to try and watch a couple of games. He’s going to go with my step-mom to my cousin’s graduation tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully I’ll be playing all day long.
